Looking Back: The 2010 Community Challenge
Last year, the This Place Matters team brought you the first ever Community Challenges to help people celebrate the places that matter in their communities or across the country. We had over 120 organizations participating in almost every state (as you can see from our map below!) and over 56,000 people stood up and said, "This Place Matters to ME!" It was a blast working with all the groups and seeing how much passion is out there for local historic buildings and sites.
It was a really close race, but by getting over 7,000 votes, the Austin Theatre Alliance won a $25,000 grant to help restore their beautiful Paramount Theatre in downtown Austin, TX.
Did you miss last year's challenge? Don't worry -- we're doing it all again this year, too! But we're limiting participation to 100 groups so make sure you're ready for the application window that starts on May 2nd, 2011. Want to be the first to know? Sign up here to get a message when the application is being accepted.
This Place Matters is sponsored by Fireman's Fund and National Trust Insurance Services because places that matter need to be protected. Learn more.
