DSP mentor guidelines and requirements will follow shortly to those who sign-up. If you have questions in the meantime, send an email to or 202-588-6407.

Engaging the Next Generation in Preservation

Kids in PreservationDiscover the many cool ways parents, aunts, uncles, educators, and kid lovers of all kinds involve youth in preservation.  A twitter conversation entitled Getting Kids Interested in Preservation will take place on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 4:00 EDT.  Come armed with your best ideas -- or biggest questions -- about how to get children interested in history, architecture, and preservation.  Click here to learn how you can participate.

Can’t make the twitter chat? There’s an Inspiring Young Preservationists toolkit waiting for you to indulge.  Click
here to get started on igniting a young person’s passion for history and culture, and spark a lifelong commitment to saving places that matter.

Learning about ways to engage the next generation in preservation doesn’t have to end online.  At the upcoming
National Preservation Conference, several sessions will delve further into this topic.  From a power session that draws from Rosenwald Schools to involve youth in preservation to education sessions that discuss the  new technologies to reach new audiences and integrate historic preservation into the larger cultural, economic and environmental issues facing America.  Click here to download a copy of the preliminary program and search the program by session type.
